About Us

The Men’s Shed Story – Men’s sheds have evolved to become an important part of Australian culture to meet the needs of men, especially retirees. We’ve all read reports which tell us that good health is based on many factors including self-esteem, feeling productive and valuable to society, having social relationships and being active.

Our Vision

NEMS’s vision is to provide facilities that will enable its membership to gather together in a spirit of friendship and inclusiveness to actively and successfully work on meaningful projects and contribute to the wider community.

Membership

The membership of NEMS is open to all on application, subject to approval by the management committee.  Members under the age of 18 must attend with supervision – the same applies to people with a disability.

The annual membership fee is set initially at $60.00 per annum, payable on 1 July each year. Members are required to contribute $2/visit to pay for tea and biscuits, or can pay an extra $40 per annum in addition to the membership fee.

The regular cost of a twelve-month membership includes $25 for insurance cover while engaging in Men’s Shed activities.

The Membership Application Form is available at Application Form

Our objectives

The primary objectives of the North Epping Men’s Shed are to establish and operate a multi-discipline “trades” and craft workshop that will:

  • Encourage the development and sharing of skills and competence of its members,
  • Provide training to members in skills areas supported by the Shed,
  • Promote comradeship and fellowship amongst members,
  • Promote and enhance healthy lifestyles,
  • Encourage involvement in and development of a more vibrant community, and
  • Support community organisations and charitable groups throughout North Epping, Epping, Ryde and Eastwood and the wider community by undertaking work or projects, which assist those organisations or groups.

We will maintain a high level of safety and health by implementing risk assessment and risk minimisation strategies for use of the equipment, and work undertaken in the workshop.

The Shed will conduct workshops, information sessions and programs which inform and educate members and others so that they are equipped to pursue healthy lifestyles and improve their well-being and health.

The Shed may establish special interest groups to meet the needs of groups of its members and provide resources consistent with the needs of those members to further the objects of the North Epping Men’s Shed.

The objects of the Shed and any special interest group within it may be enhanced by establishing affiliations, networks and/or other co-operative arrangements with other organisations with similar interests.
